Stone veneer installation in Escondido CA - stone set on a wall that can hold it

Tired of a plain stucco wall or a worn masonry face? We check the wall behind it first, then set stone that's built to stay put.

A light stone veneer retaining wall borders a raised garden and white-railed steps beside brick homes.

Can my wall take stone veneer, and what does the job involve?

Stone veneer installation in Escondido means setting natural or manufactured stone onto a wall you already have, usually stucco or masonry, so it looks like solid stone. The wall has to be sound enough to carry that stone, so checking it comes before anything else.

Most folks call us because they've got a flat stucco front, a plain block wall or a fireplace face they're tired of looking at, and they want to know if stone will work there. The price mostly comes down to how big the wall is, whether you pick natural or manufactured stone, how many corners and trim pieces it needs, and how much work the wall needs before stone can go on it. The schedule turns on that same prep, on whether the job needs a permit, and on the weather the week we set it. If the wall itself is worn out, masonry restoration may need to come first, and I'll tell you that straight when I walk it with you and write up your estimate.

How we handle a stone veneer installation

I start by looking hard at the wall, because the wall behind the stone matters more than the stone itself. If it's cracked, loose, dirty or covered in something that won't hold, we fix or clean it first so the mortar has a solid, clean surface to grab. Then we lay the stone out on the ground to mix the colors and sizes, set each piece into mortar one at a time, fill and tool the joints so they're tight and even, and clean the face as we go. Setting is the slow part, and it's the part we don't rush, since careful setting is what makes veneer hold up.

Sometimes the right wall for stone isn't there yet. We build concrete block walls that make a solid base for veneer out in a yard, and if you're planning a foundation block wall installation, we can face the part that shows in stone once the block is up.

Natural stone for one-of-a-kind walls

Quarried stone suits homeowners who want every piece to look a little different, the way real rock does. It's heavier and usually costs more to buy and set, so it's worth it when the look matters most to you.

Manufactured stone for lighter, even walls

Made stone is lighter and more even in shape, so it suits walls where weight is a concern and budgets that need to stretch further. It comes in plenty of styles, from rough ledgestone to cleaner cut-stone looks.

An accent band or the whole wall

Stone along the bottom of a house front, around column bases or on one feature wall costs less and still changes how the place looks. Covering the full wall gives you the solid-stone look, and it's the better pick when the whole face is plain.

Why Escondido homeowners call Craftsman Escondido Concrete and Masonry for stone veneer

I look at every wall myself

I come out to look at every job myself, so the person sizing up your wall is the same one running the crew when the stone goes on. I'm on site while the work gets done, which means nobody's guessing about what we agreed on.

Licensed and insured for your job

We're licensed and insured. That matters on a veneer job because we're working on the outside of your house, often up on a ladder or scaffold, and you shouldn't be the one carrying that risk if something goes wrong while we're there.

Since 2020, and still on the tools

I spent years as another mason's right hand, running jobs and learning to read old walls, before I started this business in Escondido in 2020. That's 6 years on our own, and I'm still on the tools most days, setting stone right alongside the crew.

A straight answer on whether it's worth it

If your wall isn't a good fit for stone, I'll say so, because I'd rather do the fix it actually needs than sell you the easy one. Satisfaction guaranteed. Call (760) 546-4075 or use our estimate form to set up a visit.

Stone veneer installation in Escondido and the city's checks

Whether a stone veneer job needs a permit is up to Escondido's Building Division, and if yours does, we handle the application and meet the inspector when the time comes. The division takes plans only in electronic form, and once it has a complete set of construction documents, each round of review takes about 30 calendar days, so a job that needs plans has that wait built into its schedule. If your house is on the city's Historic Resource Inventory or Local Register of Historic Places, or sits in the Old Escondido Neighborhood, the city asks you to contact its Planning Division before you start, and we'll ask you to do that before we schedule anything. Cal Fire also maps parts of Escondido as moderate, high or very high wildfire hazard severity zones, so it's worth knowing where your house falls before you plan exterior work.

Around here we see a lot of stucco house fronts, block garden walls and porch columns that people want to dress up, and that's most of our veneer work. We're based in Escondido and do the same work in the cities around it, from Temecula and Murrieta down to Chula Vista, including masonry work in San Marcos and masonry work in Vista, plus plenty of places beyond our city pages.

Stone veneer questions we hear in Escondido

Can stone veneer go over my existing stucco in Escondido?

Usually yes, as long as the stucco is sound, clean and able to carry the stone. Veneer shouldn't go over a wall that's failing or over EIFS, a foam-backed insulation finish that can look a lot like stucco. If your house is brick, industry guidance says manufactured stone shouldn't be bonded to clay brick, which changes the plan. I'll check which one you've got when I come out.

How long does stone veneer last on a house?

Industry guidance says that when it's installed using recommended practices, stone veneer can perform as intended for decades. The same guidance says workmanship tends to be the main source of problems, so how the crew sets the stone weighs as heavily as the stone you pick. That's why setting is the part we take our time on.

What does stone veneer installation cost in the San Diego area?

Installing stone veneer in the San Diego area usually costs about $3,000 to $15,000 per project. That's what the work runs across the region, not our price, and the size of your wall, the stone you choose and the prep it needs decide where yours lands. I'll walk it with you and put your number in writing.

Who can install stone veneer in California?

In California, the state licensing board's masonry contractor classification is the one that covers installing natural and manufactured stone. So stone veneer falls under the masonry trade, the same as brick and block work.

What is the best way to choose natural stone for an outdoor wall?

Pick a stone with a history of standing up to the weather where you live, because not every natural stone is suggested for outdoor use. Before you settle on one, ask how that type has held up in local weather. I'm happy to tell you what I know about any stone you're looking at.

What happens if it's hot or windy on the day stone veneer goes up?

Fresh veneer work gets protected from losing moisture too fast when it's very hot, dry or windy, under hot-weather masonry requirements. That's the crew's job, not yours, and it's a fair thing to ask any installer about before the work starts. Ask me when I come out and I'll walk you through how we'll handle it.
